Identify the intended top lip or hook and the required lower bearing. Loose mats, rounded nosings and painted trim should not carry load by assumption. Watch an unloaded placement for rocking or creep. A versatile ramp claim cannot compensate for an unsuitable contact point at a particular destination.

Keep capacity tied to configuration

Find the stated maximum load for the exact length and support arrangement. Include the wheelchair, occupant and essential carried items where the instructions permit occupied use. Treat capacity as an upper limit rather than proof of compatibility. Longer variants in one range can have different figures. Do not combine separate ratings or assume a metal deck is stronger than its documentation states. Record the source and date beside every capacity entry.

Plan alignment and steering

Mark a straight approach line and ensure the wheelchair can reach it without a sharp turn. The operator needs stable footing and sight of wheels, edges and both transitions. Learn the chair's brake, power-off and free-wheel procedures on level ground. Agree a stop call.
