Marking a familiar spacing may help only if the same chair always uses the route. Tracks can be a poor match where several wheelchairs visit or where steering room is limited. Never assume a successful empty-chair trial proves occupied use; follow the permitted method and obtain suitable guidance when doubt remains.

Plan doorway movement before the first trial

Open the door to its normal maximum and measure the reduced landing rather than ignoring the leaf, handle and closer. Decide who unlocks it, where that person waits and how it stays clear of the wheelchair. The user should not be asked to pause on a slope while somebody reaches across the chair.
