Bring the actual wheelchair and observe alignment, turns, stopping positions and the user's view. Consider both upward and downward travel, along with the helper's walking space. Check whether parked cars, open gates or refuse collection change the route at particular times. A trial may show that moving a gatepost or reversing a door improves access more than squeezing in a different ramp. Record observations and update the measured brief before installation details are finalised.
Agree how snow, ice, fallen leaves and standing water will be handled and where clearing equipment is stored without obstructing access. Identify another safe entrance or assistance plan if maintenance temporarily closes the ramp. Construction itself also needs a temporary access arrangement that does not strand the resident. Lighting failures, damaged gates and delivery items should be treated as access problems rather than minor inconvenience. Keep relevant contact details available to the user and household.
